    Description

Please email with any questions. 5 3/4" by 9 1/2" bill of lading printed on pale blue paper with a small vignette of a sailing ship. Dated January 15th, 1859, The steamer "Florida" was carrying three boxes of hardware from the port of New York to Savannah, Georgia then carried overland by train to the hardware store of Carhart & Curd in Macon, Georgia. This original piece came from a collection of business ephemera from Carhart & Curd. There are some light fold lines and some faint soiling along the edges. The USS Florida was a sidewheel steamer built in 1850. In 1861 it was purchased and commissioned to join the South Atlantic Blockading Squadron.
