Rare original 1866 Journal of Coal Schooner Maggie Van Dusen of Philadelphia with Captain William E. Corson. Mentioned in several publications such as the Wilmington Daily Dispatch discharging at Harriss & Howel, “Official Records of the Union and Confederate Navies in the War of The Rebellion” the Union Navy took control of command of several ships including the coal schooner Maggie Vandusen. The coal schooner also discharged coal at Fortress Monroe on Feb. 8, 1865.Someone pasted 1880s newspaper articles over portions of the log book pages. Most of the first 7 pages, front & back are covered. The remaining 27 + pages have entries but toward the back, quite a few pages have water and other damage. See photos. The last page has the title of the journal and is dated May 15, 1866 and was signed by Charles Haley.
Journal measures 15.5” tall x 10.5” wide.
Condition is Used. Part of back section in rough condition.
Someone with knowledge of wetting down or steaming newspaper articles could remove them from the journal pages.
