Orioles right-hander Dylan Bundy was dominant in his second minor league rehab start Saturday night at Low-A Aberdeen, striking out nine batters over five scoreless innings in the Ironbirds’ extra-innings loss to the Brooklyn Cyclones (an affiliate of the Mets).
Bundy retired Brooklyn’s entire lineup in order the first time through and yielded just two total hits on the evening -- a single and a double. The 21-year-old top prospect was also sharp last Sunday in his rehab debut, allowing only one run and fanning six over five innings. He should be cleared to climb to High-A Frederick or even Double-A Bowie later this week.
Bundy, nearly 12 months removed from Tommy John reconstructive elbow surgery, could be an option for the O’s rotation soon after the All-Star break. He was the No. 4 overall pick in 2011 and carries ace-like upside.
