How do I know it is Genuine Alligator?
Deciding what is genuine alligator can be very confusing. Many products look like alligator but may actually be Nile crocodile, Caiman crocodile, or even cowhide prints that look very much like the real thing. Products made with Nile crocodile are comparable in quality to products made with American Alligator and look very similar. Those made with Caiman crocodile usually have a shorter life and are of lesser quality than both Nile crocodile and American alligator. You can tell the difference between Caiman croc and alligator by looking at the pattern itself. Caiman croc has pits in each individual tile, whereas alligator normally have very smooth tiles. Imitation alligator is also very hard to distinguish from the real thing especially by looking at a picture. If the description indicates alligator print or alligator grain, then you can be sure it is NOT genuine alligator. Also, there is no such thing as an alligator crocodile.  While there are 24 different species of crocodiles, there are only two different species of alligator; the Chinese alligator (a protected species) and the American alligator found only in the US.
