Description
I have been collecting Ford GT / GT 40 literature, parts, memorabilia for 15 years+ and have a pretty good collection of over 200 items - anyone want to buy a NEW front claim shell for a 2005 Ford GT ;0).For the longest time Ford Mgt. assumed they still owned the trademark name of GT40, and that is how they started the project and how they referenced to the
vehicle
that was going to celebrate the 100 yr.
anniversary
of Ford. They were deep into the project and had generated a lot of interviews, drink coasters, and single piece marketing pieces - and even rolled it out at the 2004 Car Show as the Ford GT40 before they hit a brick wall--- that didn't own the GT 40 name and had sold it for ,500 to a person in Ohio. Since they were so far into the program, and since it was the original name, FORD wanted to buy it back very-very badly. Unfortunately, the new owner figured this out and was asking $ 10 Million + for Ford to buy it back. Ultimately, Ford passed on the buy back since they new it was only a 2 year production run, and they were going to loose enough money on the project with out adding another M loss to the books. So, rather then be
blackmailed
and delay the project any longer the project changed from the GT 40 name to the current Ford GT.
BUT this heavy glossy, heavy paper stock piece extremely rear piece had already gone to press exactly when all of this was happening, and it is an incredible piece of art, information, history and images --- that they never could use, and it was never distributed.
It is a 2 # semi-coffee table book full of 100's of photos of the full size clay models and rolling stock prototypes all
emblazoned
with GT40, and not just Ford GT. It is divided into 4 sections:
1 - Overview,
2 -
Living
Legends
3 - Design
4 - Engineering
5 - A DVD with lot more images and info
Full of 100's of photos and 30 pages of text tell the entire
history
, background, motivation, and technical details for this legendary car. It's like opening a time capsule. it is an extremely well documented and
photographic
history of how the car
existing
in 2003/4-- and then be able to compare that version to what was produced -
fascinating
changes and details.
Since it was never release to the press, or public, and hundreds of boxes destroyed because they had the wrong car name, these few copies that didn't go to the
incinerator
makes them extremely rare. In 15 years I have
never
seen one before - but had heard a lot about this Mysterious Book. Recently, a
friend
passed away, and left me his copies with instruction to share them with the world, and I want to share the wealth - because they are
truly
the most rare Ford GT piece I have ever seen and they belong in the most serious of Ford GT collections.
