All the players wore #42 in honor of Jackie Robinson. Kyle Freeland started for the Rockies, while Zach Davies went for the Padres. The Rockies jumped out to an early lead in the bottom of the first when Charlie Blackmon drove in Trevor Story and then Matt Kemp hit a three-run home run that scored Blackmon and Daniel Murphy. The Padres, however, fought back and scored 10 unanswered runs off hits by Fernando Tatis, Jr., Manny Machado, Eric Hosmer, Wil Myers, Ty France, Jorge Mateo, and Austin Hedges. In the bottom of the eighth, Nolan Arenado led off for the Rockies. Cal Quantrill was now on the mound for the Padres. Quantrill HELD THIS BALL IN HIS HAND!! He threw a 94 mph four-seam fastball that Arenado fouled. Quantrill then threw a sinker, and ARENADO HIT THIS BALL TO MYERS IN RF FOR A SINGLE!! (Yes, that means Myers touched this ball too!) This ball was then retired. The Rockies eventually loaded the bases but failed to score when Garrett Hampson lined out to Trent Grisham in CF. The Rockies lost the game 10-4.
