    Description

    This is a beautifully detailed very old composition wood trinket box.  On the lid stands a lovely Skye Terrier. On this box there is no hinge.  The lid lifts on and off.  This was found in an estate sale.  I was told that the box was originally imported into the USA from Scotland.  However, the wood in this box looks very much like that manufactured by a company called Syroco which was a USA company.    The maker was either Syroco or a company who also produced composition wood similar to Syroco.  The box is unmarked.  What confuses me is the patterns on this box which are definitely European...so I guess that I just don't know.    The box is old...perhaps older than most Syroco boxes.  Looking at this box I would guess 1930s...but it could have been created in the 1920s or perhaps even early 1940s.   You can see the signs of wear on it...but the beauty remains.   The dog is lovely and it has the long low body and typical Skye Terrier ear set.   Measurements are approximately:  4" x 5.25".  This is a rare box and it is still beautiful!!!
